Camarão ã Guilho

Camarão ã Guilho

David Rodrigues
Camarão à Guilho AKA garlic shrimp is one of those dishes you can smell before you see—garlic hitting hot olive oil, shrimp sizzling, and that hint of spice floating through a Portuguese kitchen. It’s a simple recipe, but one that instantly brings you back to coastal cafés and shared plates with family

Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large/jumbo shrimp
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 6-8 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • pinch of salt and pinch of pepper
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 lemon
  • parsley or cilantro for garnish
  • splash of white wine or vinho verde

Instructions

  1. Season shrimp with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. Heat olive oil in shallow pan and add butter.
  3. Once oil and butter are hot and combined, add garlic. Control your temperature as to not burn the garlic.
  4. Once garlic starts to become fragrant, add shrimp and cook shrimp for about 4-5 minutes on medium to medium-high heat. Be careful not to overcook.
  5. Mix the shrimp well in the oil while cooking, so that everything is well coated.
  6. Add splash of vinho verde or white wine. Squeeze a lemon and garnish with parsley or cilantro. Mix well.
  7. Remove from heat and serve!
